A new product of multi-plant extracts improved skin photoaging: An oral intake in vivo study.
Xie, Zhu, Yi, et al. Journal of cosmetic dermatology, 2022.
Study design: Double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized trial in 55 healthy people aged 45 to 60; an oral product containing extracts of Cucumis melo, acerola, olive fruit, aloe gel, grape seed, and lycopene for 12 weeks, plus an animal model.
- Transepidermal water loss (TEWL), hydration, sebum, and elasticity improved significantly in the product group.
- Melanin index and skin brightness also improved compared with baseline.
- In 90 UV-exposed mice, the high dose lowered MDA and tyrosinase and increased antioxidant enzymes.
- The authors suggest the effect works through antioxidant pathways and tyrosinase inhibition.
