Blood Lipid Levels in Response to Almond Consumption: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.
Musa-Veloso, Gauntlett, Geronimo, et al. Nutrients, 2025.
Study design: Systematic review and meta-analysis of 36 publications (48 datasets) of randomized clinical trials lasting at least 4 weeks, totaling 2,485 adults without heart disease.
- Almond consumption lowered LDL-C by -0.132 mmol/L and total cholesterol by -0.160 mmol/L.
- Non-HDL-C fell by -0.204 mmol/L and ApoB fell by -4.552 mg/dL.
- The reduction in triglycerides was only close to significant, and there was no effect on HDL-C, ApoA, or Lp(a).
- The effects remained when the analysis was limited to higher-quality studies, except for triglycerides.
