Super Hydro™

Produced with the Super Hydro™ method

Simplisia vs Super Hydro™: extraction separates active compounds from fibre and starch

Super Hydro™ is an extraction method developed by BBK's extract manufacturing team. It draws out the active compounds of natural materials more effectively at a lower concentration. Based on our internal testing, a Super Hydro™ extract at a 2:1 ratio delivers performance comparable to a 5:1 extract from non-standardised producers.

Patent status: The Super Hydro™ method is currently patent pending. Even so, every BBK extract has been produced with this method from the start, so each batch you receive meets a quality standard above the market average.

Fruit Premix Extract (Fruit blend): 3 Studies and Product Opportunities

Whole fruit is associated with metabolic benefits even though it contains natural sugars. Fruit powder is a different form: its fiber can be reduced and its sugar is more concentrated per serving. The three studies below help brands position fruit premixes honestly, including on sugar.

Study 1 · Meta-analysis Very strong evidence

Association of Major Food Sources of Fructose-Containing Sugars With Incident Metabolic Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Semnani-Azad, Khan, Blanco Mejia, et al. JAMA network open, 2020.

Study design: Systematic review and meta-analysis of thirteen prospective cohort studies on fructose-containing sugar food sources and the incidence of metabolic syndrome.

Key findings
  • Fruit showed a protective association: risk ratio 0.82 for 80 g per day.
  • Mixed fruit juice and 100% juice were protective at moderate amounts (RR 0.58 and 0.77 for 125 mL per day), with a U-shaped pattern.
  • Sugar-sweetened beverages, in contrast, were associated with higher risk (RR 1.14 for 355 mL per day).
  • Certainty of evidence was moderate for fruit and fruit juice.

What it means for your product: Moderate amounts are key. Fruit premixes are best positioned without added sugar and with a reasonable serving size.

Study 2 · Meta-analysis Very strong evidence

Important Food Sources of Fructose-Containing Sugars and Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Controlled Trials.

Lee, Chiavaroli, Ayoub-Charette, et al. Nutrients, 2022.

Study design: Systematic review and meta-analysis of 51 controlled trials (75 comparisons, n = 2,059) on fructose-containing sugars from 10 food sources, including fruit, dried fruit, mixed fruit, 100% fruit juice, and sugar-sweetened beverages.

Key findings
  • Total fructose-containing sugars increased liver fat (SMD 1.72) only in trials that added excess calories.
  • There was no effect on liver fat or liver enzymes in substitution or ad libitum trials.
  • The clearest harmful effect came from sugar-sweetened beverages that added excess calories.
  • For other sources, including fruit and fruit juice, the uncertainty of the evidence still varied, generally low to moderate.

What it means for your product: The food source and total calories matter more than fructose itself. Fruit premixes are best made without added sugar and not positioned as high-calorie sweet drinks.

Study 3 · Systematic review Supporting evidence

Health effects of mixed fruit and vegetable concentrates: a systematic review of the clinical interventions.

Esfahani, Wong, Truan, et al. Journal of the American College of Nutrition, 2011.

Study design: Systematic review of twenty-two clinical study reports using commercially sold mixed fruit and vegetable concentrate products.

Key findings
  • Daily intake of the concentrates increased blood levels of beta-carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, and folate.
  • Reductions in homocysteine and oxidative stress markers were reported.
  • No study reported serious side effects.
  • Study designs, populations, and measurements varied widely, so larger clinical trials are needed.

What it means for your product: Supports positioning concentrates as a complement for people with low fruit intake, not a replacement for fresh fruit.

Claims you can make

Language guide for B2B and educational materials. Claims on finished product labels and ads must be the ones approved by BPOM at registration.

OK to say

  • Contains a blend of fruit powders; dietary fiber content is stated according to test results.
  • Eating fruit in reasonable amounts is associated with a better metabolic profile in cohort studies (cite the source).
  • A practical option for adding natural fruit flavor and color to products.

Avoid

  • Prevents or treats metabolic syndrome, diabetes, or fatty liver.
  • Equivalent to fresh fruit.
  • Low in sugar or safe for people with diabetes without sugar content data for your product.

Both meta-analyses assessed fruit and juice in the diet, not premix powders, and the concentrate review covered fruit and vegetable blends. Fruit powder can contain more concentrated sugar per gram, and some fiber or vitamins can be lost during processing; include accurate nutrition facts. BBK fruit premix extract is halal certified.

Using this research for BPOM registration

  1. Add the three journals above to the literature review or the safety and benefit supporting data in your product dossier.
  2. Attach BBK's specification and per-batch CoA as raw material quality data. The specification always ships with the order; CoA is available on request.
  3. Match your serving size to the doses used in the studies, then confirm final claims with a regulatory consultant or BPOM.

The studies above were not done with BBK products. BBK extracts are made with the Super Hydro™ method, but study results do not automatically apply to your finished product.
